Handmade Marble Styles
Handmade marbles have been popular for so many generations that a range of distinctive styles have evolved over the years making it easier to categorize and identify different types. The rather broad category of handmade marbles known as swirl marbles includes style ranging from practically clear marbles with delicate spirals of color inside the marble to marbles densely packed with colors spiraling inside the marble. Ribbon swirl marbles and latticino marbles are two of the more widely recognized styles of swirl marbles. Handmade onionskin marbles are distinctive for their repeating dot pattern that lies just beneath the surface of the marble. Handmade sulphide marbles differentiate themselves from other marble styles in that they are clear marbles with a small object, usually made out of porcelain, inside the marble with no added swirls or colors. Modern marble artists continue to create handmade marbles in traditional styles as well as experimenting with techniques that bring new dimension to marble styles like murrine marbles, which involves cutting glass into cross sections to create a design.
